Dr Hyun Ko
Hyun Ko is a diagnostic radiologist with interest in body imaging, especially of the upper gastrointestinal tract. She has additional subspecialty training in paediatric and breast imaging. Hyun obtained her medical degree, general radiology and paediatric subspecialty radiology training at the University of Heidelberg, Germany (1993-2005). During that time she was granted an Erasmus grant by the European Union to study medicine in Montpellier, France (1998). She also did several months of clinical electives in internal medicine at Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, USA (1999) and in cancer surgery at the Montpellier Cancer Institute (Centre de Lutte Contre le Cancer der la Région Occitanie/ Pyrenées Mediterranée, 2000). She was awarded the Neuhauser fellowship by the European Society of Paediatric Radiology that sponsored her to attend a min-fellowship at the Boston Children’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School in 2005. She moved to Australia in 2006 and worked at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Royal Children’s Hospital, Brisbane. During that time she co-chaired the upper gastrointestinal meeting, chaired the urology meeting and was a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland. In 2010, Hyun spent a research year in body imaging at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada where she was awarded 3rd research place of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging. She did further broaden her skills by doing a 6 months breast fellowship at St. Vincent’s Hospital in 2016/17. Hyun currently works in private practice and at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, holding the radiology chair at the upper gastrointestinal meeting. She has authored several peer reviewed articles and has presented several papers/ posters at both local and international meetings.
