A/Prof Ben Thomson
Ben Thomson is an HPB surgeon and is currently the Head of the Department of General Surgical Specialties at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is also the Director of the Upper Gastrointestinal Tumour Stream at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and a Clinical Associate Professor at The University of Melbourne. He trained in Melbourne and Edinburgh before being appointed as a consultant HPB and transplant surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. In 2004 he established the inpatient HPB services at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Ben is also an endoscopist performing ERCP and is currently the Chair of the Conjoint Committee for Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE). Ben has authored over 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 11 book chapters and presented in 86 invited international and Australian meetings. His research interests include colorectal cancer, neuroendocrine tumours and pancreatic cancer.
